Peter Do’s Cerebral Introduction of Menswear Was Done in Grand Fashion for SS23

Having always displayed a penchant for creating womenswear looks that skew towards a masculine aesthetic and men’s-inspired tailoring, Peter Do has finally crossed that bridge of providing full-on men’s clothing.
His cerebral introduction of menswear was done grandly for Spring/Summer 2023, as he recruited SM Entertainment – Korea’s largest entertainment company – to help usher in his next chapter of design. SME’s sensational K-pop group NCT has played sort of a muse role for Do (with him dressing band member Johnny for the 2022 Met Gala), as he selected Johnny’s bandmate, Jeno to open the SS23 show held in New York City.
Do’s collection of menswear included a muted color palette of black, white, grey and neutrals, all done up in sumptuous fabrications such as silk and leather. Side-slit leather pants, ombré knit tops and bottoms, along with oversized shoulder bags and elevated sportswear gave this show a leg-up. Standout items include draped chest-baring convertible collar shirting, pleated skirts worn over straight-leg trousers, sheer button-down tops with matching pants, leather trenchcoats and Jeno’s opening look of a black single-breasted blazer with extra-wide black satin lapels and white contrast pockets.
Additionally using “TIME” as a construct for the basis of his SS23 collection, Do shared the reason why he chose to showcase menswear this season, stating: “In pursuit of completing the Peter Do universe, people have always told us, ‘it’s about time that you launched men’s,’ although men have been wearing Peter Do for some time now. The eternal question of, ‘who is the Peter Do woman?’ has always been limiting to me. Now I’m excited to say that Peter Do is for everyone because we don’t just dress women or men – we dress people.”
