With its creative roots formed in Australia’s Byron Bay and Tokyo’s Shibuya district, Banks Journal’s approach for Fall/Winter 2022 centers on the coastal calm of beach banks and floating optimism.

Brand founders Tim Cochran and Rama McCabe (from Australia), along with Masa Shibahara and Motoo Noda (from Tokyo), have delivered a sustainable streetwear collection for FW22, and are homing in on the wabi-sabi aesthetics of Japanese culture. Celebrating the imperfections of design, the new season collection features tonal washed denim – in the form of brown carpenter pants – a neutral short set in lightweight tech fabric and a yellow quilted workwear jacket.

Soft hoodies (in black and white), contain the brand’s sweeping ‘heart-shaped B’ logo on the back, while sweatshirts contain a contrasting color ribbed neckline. Utility pockets appear on shorts, pants and jackets while color-swathed bucket hats contain the “Banks Journal” fabric tag affixed at the front.

Talking about the brand’s laid-back ethos, the founders collectively shared the following sentiment: “We embrace the everyday journeys we take with optimism in our hearts. It’s through this yearning for adventure that we aim to add utility and function to everything we produce.”

“Since day one we wanted to take a sustainable approach to design and development. A bit of stretch here, a little waterproofing there, means we achieve functionality without sacrificing our signature understated style,” they added.

More information on Banks Journal, along with FW22 collection pricing, can be found on the brand’s website.

Elsewhere in fashion, PANGAIA tapped Kenny Scharf for a unique capsule collection.
