Uber to Discontinue Its Free Loyalty Rewards Program

You’ll have until the end of October to redeem your current rewards.

After four years in service, Uber has now decided to shut down its free loyalty program. Uber Rewards was first announced back in 2018 and allowed users to earn points through using the app’s ridesharing and hailing services as well as Uber Eats.

As you accumulate more points, you progress through four membership tiers, unlocking new perks for each level. Some of the perks included being immune to price surges and getting priority pick-ups at airports for the platinum tier. Those on the program now will have until the end of August to earn points, and then you’ll have to redeem all your rewards by October 31.

With the free program discontinued, Uber will instead be rolling out a paid subscription instead. For $10 USD month, those who sign up will come with different perks they’ll be able to access immediately, including five percent off Uber rides from top-rated drivers as well as free food deliveries with Uber Eats. “Thank you for being part of Uber Rewards,” the company said in a statement. “It’s been a great ride, but we’ve decided to end Rewards soon, as we shift our focus to our new Uber One membership program.”

In other related news, Spotify has launched a new website for fans to buy concert tickets directly.
