Rothy’s and evian® Water Debut Tennis-Inspired Collection Made With 72,000 Water Bottles
Thanks to circular production.
Last September at the US Open in New York, Rothy’s and evian collected approximately 72,000 bottles of water from the event to transform them into a tennis-inspired collection created with Rothy’s signature 3d knitting process. The two brands have been on the forefront of sustainability and committed to working together to find a solution for diverted waste. Both brands have become carbon neutral certified and have adopted the method of circular production, in this process they have reduced carbon emissions in every stage and started safe practices such as the use of twice-recycled materials, rPET2 packaging, shoe recycling technology, and investing in nature-based carbon reductions for every mile of shipping.
“What Rothy’s is aiming to do is to fill every gap in the journey of a product lifecycle from how it’s sourced, how it’s designed and manufactured, and then eventually how it is broken down and remade,” explained Saskia van Gendt, Rothy’s head of sustainability. “Circularity, in general, symbolizes a product lifecycle — and to achieve it, not only is it about how the materials are used, how you’re producing the longevity of the product, but also about closing the loop by offering recycling and end-of-wear solutions.”
In Rothy’s very own wholly factory, the bottles are broken down into soft washable thread then knitted to craft pieces from apparel to accessories. The factory allows the brand to control costs and looks holistically for ways to minimize waste throughout the entire operation.
The limited-edition collection gives off a sophisticated look with a white, red and blue colorway. They feature a range of refreshing, washable footwear, tennis apparel and accessories. Reimagining their Slip On Sneaker ($125 USD), the newest style comes in white and a stripe from heel to toe in evian®’s signature palette for a sporty touch. The RS01 Sneaker ($175 USD) offers a flexible upper and sturdy outsoles in ice blue with grooves that provide extra traction and durability. The Cap ($95 USD) is lined with moisture-wicking terry, pique mesh for ventilation in the back, and is made out of about 5 bottles. The Visor ($75 USD) comes in white with rose piping and a tonal logo detailing. The Racket Bag ($325 USD) features an adjustable strap and a front zip compartment to stash essentials. The Sling ($195 USD) made out of 19 water bottles, offers two compartments for storage, and can be worn around the shoulder, hip or waist. The Duffel Bag ($495 USD) comes with padded top handles, a bright lime interior lining, a spacious main compartment and two exterior pockets designed to hold water bottles and tennis balls.
