adidas and Thebe Magugu Unveil Vibrant Debut Collaboration
Featuring multicolored apparel and footwear.
adidas has teamed up with South African designer Thebe Magugu for a new sports collaboration. The debut collection is complete with vibrantly-colored apparel and footwear, championing African heritage and inclusivity.
Consisting of gender-neutral and womenswear pieces, apparel offerings include tennis garments, swimwear, running and UNITEFIT pieces. The garments come to life through multicolored designs inspired by Magugu’s mother, grandmother and aunt and designed with artist Phathu Nembilwi. Specifically, the designs feature vivid shades of lilac, goldenrod, shock pink and punch orange.
“I’m infinitely inspired by the energy of the women in my life and the heritage of my native land,” said Magugu. “Bringing together such personal stories through design and blending them with adidas’ iconic performance and lifestyle pieces has been an amazing process. The collection really celebrates all the positive influences around me and a sense of community that is so important to me. I hope it inspires the same joyful feeling in those who wear it.”
Alongside apparel, the collection reimagines signature adidas footwear like the Stan Smith, Astir, Nizza Platform and Forum footwear. Incorporating Magugu’s poetic design cadence are staple multicolored prints.
The first drop of the adidas x Thebe Magugu collection will be available beginning August 1 for adiClub members’ early access. The collection will be available for all online on Monday, August 15.
