'Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic' Remake Reportedly Delayed Indefinitely

The game’s recent demo was supposedly not up to standard despite a targetted 2022 release date.

The remake of the popular Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game has supposedly been delayed indefinitely after Aspyr Media, the company in charge of the remake, fired its important staff.

According to reports, design director Brad Prince and art director Jason Minor were fired a week after Aspyr completed a demo to show Lucasfilm and Sony on June 30. The company supposedly held several meetings in July to let employees know that the demo was not up to standard and that the remake “would be put on hold.” In addition, Aspyr informed staff that it will be searching for new contracts and development opportunities.

While a reason for the firing of Prince and Minor were not confirmed, a source told Bloomberg that the amount of time and money spent to create the demo was “disproportionate.” Bloomberg suggests, however, that the freezing of the remake could be due to the game’s release date; Aspyr shared to partners an end of 2022 release date, although 2025 is “a more realistic target.”

Aspyr employees suspect that Saber Interactive, who is in charge of outsourced work for the remake, could soon take over. The company is yet to respond to Engadget’s request for comment.

Elsewhere in gaming, GTA VI will reportedly feature a playable female character.
