Hailing from New Delhi, India, fashion label Perte D’ego operates with a penchant for artisanal craftsmanship. For Spring/Summer 2023, the brand’s creative director, Utkarsh Mithas, sought inspiration from vintage travel posters, fond childhood memories and his own summer adventures to craft an eclectic range, titled “Boarding Call.”

First shown during London Fashion Week Men’s in June, the collection relies on a myriad of traditional design techniques, including intricate appliqué, hand dyeing, precise cutwork, hand embroideries and Zari weaving. A kaleidoscopic color story animates the range; saturated hues of yellow, orange, purple and blue command several statement ensembles, while vivid embroidery, beaded detailing and glistening gemstones enliven otherwise neutral tops. Standouts include an ultrarealistic knit bouquet sewn into the lower right quadrant of a light button-down, a matching shirt-and-short set decorated with detailed sailboat motifs and a boxy white top brought to life by kaleidoscopic kite designs, among others.

“With this collection, we wanted to further highlight our ‘Rebellious Lover’ theme and incorporate traditional hand embroidery and craftsmanship which needs preservation and promotion,” the collection notes read. “In today’s world, we are so used to things happening at lightning speed that people have started losing touch with the beauty of patience and perseverance.”

Notably, Perte D’ego steers away from outsourcing to factories for manufacturing and instead hires artisans on permanent contracts to produce each collection in its own studio. With the expectation that each piece receives personal attention, Mithas notes that several designs in the SS23 range require two to four days to be handcrafted by skilled craftsmen.
