Listings: Richard Neutra's Baldwin House is a Modernist Marvel

An LA home designed by famed Austrian-American architect Richard Neutra has been listed by Sotheby’s International Realty with a price tag of $3.3 million. Nicknamed the “Baldwin House”, the property is located in the Woodland Hills area of California and was completed back in 1962.

Described by Sotheby’s as a “pedigree modernist home”, its stripped-back, blocky style exemplifies Neutra’s modernist sensibility, which gained him the reputation of being one of the movement’s most iconic pioneers throughout the course of his career. Inside, the property’s interiors have been decked out for the 21st century by its current owners, stylist Jeanne Yang and her husband, realty agent Scott Cort, who lived there since 2000. Thankfully, many of its modernist details have been left intact, and are in keeping with the building’s exterior architectural style.

Outside, the home is accessed via a curving driveway that leads up to a private hilltop. Despite an abundance of trees surrounding the property, which offer a high level of privacy, there are panoramic views from its patio. A swimming pool is set amongst a grassy backyard, while a bamboo deck is accessed via a sliding wall. Across the 3,062 square-foot home, there are four bedrooms and three full bathrooms. Three of the bedrooms are upstairs, while one is downstairs, along with the kitchen and living rooms. Original details such as built-in storage and metal light switches have been left in place, as well as lighting fixtures and a wall clock that is distinctive of the time at which the building was constructed.
