Liam Gallagher Goes Back to Basics for His adidas Spezial LG2 SPZL
Exploring “Shades of White” while referencing casual culture, music and adidas’ brand heritage.
Liam Gallagher is the lead vocalist of Oasis and a solo performer in his own right, but his talents go beyond making music as the Northern rock icon has just officially revealed his latest collaboration with adidas Spezial — the LG2 SPZL. First seen on Gallagher’s feet at his intimate gig in Blackburn in April, the Gary Aspden-helmed footwear giant and Gallagher now gear up for the pair’s global release, which is set to drop later this month.
Gallagher is a die-hard adidas fan, especially when it comes to Spezial. Seldom seen wearing anything but adidas and Stone Island, the musician has honed his unequivocal style which now heavily influences the LG2 SPZL. For the sneaker, Gallagher looks into the archives to create something that’s immediately timeless, celebrating things close to the artist’s heart such as heritage, music, culture, and the intersection of this particular trio. It’s the natural successor to his original adidas Spezial collaboration from 2019, but brings a cleaner aesthetic fit for all occasions.
“Shades of White” are explored with this new sneaker, with “Chalk White” nylon being used for the upper and the EVA die-cute midsole and rubber outsole appearing in gray and white. Further touches of gray are used to add definition to the pair, with the Three Stripes appearing in a gray flock and the asymmetric toe box overlay, asymmetric rubber toe guard, and suede heel cup all also appearing in grey.
Gallagher’s signature “Endorsed by Liam Gallagher” logo, complete with his portrait, sits in a “Bluebird” tone on the tongue alongside a small amount of OG adidas branding, while adidas’ logo and an adidas Spezial Mod Trefoil work the heels across the left and right feet, respectively.
Rounding out this limited-edition sneaker is its box, which comes complete with a portrait sticker that pays homage to both vintage adidas boxes and the inaugural LG SPZL, and an “Endorsed by Liam Gallagher” leather hangtag portrait that can be added to the shoe’s array of eyelets at the wearer’s discretion.
