Bill Gates Mocks Bored Ape Yacht Club and NFTs

During his interview for TechCrunch’s Sessions: Climate 2022 event, Bill Gates shared his thoughts on the world of cryptocurrency and NFTs. The tech icon interestingly mocked the popularity of the space, seemingly referencing Bored Ape Yacht Club, and questioning the positive impact of the development.
“I don’t know, I mean, obviously expensive digital images of monkeys are gonna improve the world immensely,” said Gates said. “And that’s so incredible. Anyway, I’m used to asset classes where, like, a farm where they have output or a company where they make products.”
Adding that he is “not involved” in NFTs, Bill Gates noted that NFTs are “100 percent based on, sort of, greater fool theory,” meaning somebody has to be “foolish” enough to pay more than you did for it. Finishing by questioning if NFTs were created to avoid “government rules.”
