The Season’s Best Runway Looks Ruled the 2022 BET Awards Red Carpet

The annual BET Awards continues to be a prominent highlight of spring/summer awards show season – in step with the Billboard and iHeart Radio Awards – but has seamlessly carved out its lane within the music and entertainment sector. And for 2022’s big occasion, the season’s best runway looks ruled the event’s red carpet.
Collectively known as “Culture’s Biggest Night,” the 2022 BET Awards honored Black excellence and achievement within music, television, film and sports, bringing some of the industry’s biggest names to its main stage. Headlining performances from Lizzo, Jack Harlow, Latto and more moved audience members to their feet, while surprise performances from Lil Wayne, Brandy and Mariah Carey, along with a Sean “Diddy” Combs tribute performance and BET Lifetime Achievement Award win – featuring a special presentation from Ye – filled Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater with thunderous applause.
Outside of the arena, event attendees got to shine and share their looks for the event on the mile-long red carpet, with stars rocking the most prominent labels, from Louis Vuitton to Casablanca. Rae Sremmurd, Wale, Giveon, Lil Uzi, Rick Ross, Jacquees and more turned up the red carpet heat in a variety of looks that included treated denim, streamlined tailoring, wide-legged pants, luxury sneakers and bright colors.
BET’s Style Director, Tira Urquhart, commented on the night’s looks and the importance of the event, stating: “I noticed the ombré and bright-colored suit trend. Daniel Kaluuya, Lucky Daye, Diddy, and Jabari Banks wore ombré or bright-colored suits. My fave menswear look was Lucky Daye. I loved the fit of his suit, the bright and vibrant colors, and I love how he accessorized with a bouquet that matched his look.”
“The BET Awards are important because it celebrates Black Excellence [and] is the only show that continues to celebrate and highlight the best of the best in our culture,” she added.

Rae Sremmurd
Dynamic duo Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi – collectively known as Rae Sremmurd – brought out the smooth vibes for this year’s awards show wearing Casablanca black-and-white on black fits. Swae’s look featured wide-legged pants that elegantly showed off the rapper’s shoe boots.

Bleu
The artist formerly known as “Yung Bleu” rocked a cropped Fendi button-down top with cinnamon-colored leather pants. A fresh pair of Air-Force 1 sneakers, diamond jewelry and orange sunglasses topped off his look.

Jabari Banks
The new Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star swagged out the red carpet in a vibrant pink tuxedo with black trim detail. His black shirt entailed a ruffled bib that complemented the black lapels on the jacket. Banks finished the look with a pair of reptile-skin pink boots.

Acclaimed actor Jacob Latimore dazzled on the red carpet in a double-breasted silver sequin jacket and pants. The sparkling suit was paired with a patent leather pair of dress shoes, diamond stud earrings and a diamond necklace.

Lil Uzi Vert
Iconic rapper Lil Uzi made an appearance on the carpet wearing a red suede denim-style jacket and black leather pants. His waist was accessorized in a pair of black Balenciaga underwear, and a white leather Saint Laurent belt. The look was topped off with a pair of red-and-white Louis Vuitton by Virgil Abloh sneakers.

Fireboy DML
Talented artist Fireboy DML went for a sleek, monochromatic look on the carpet. He donned a cream-colored two-piece suit with diamond chains and opted not to wear a shirt under the suit jacket. Black leather Wallabee-style shoes complimented the suit’s straight-leg tailoring.

Giveon
Rising R&B star Giveon chose a black-and-orange color combo for his look, opting for wide-legged, orange leather pants and a studded black denim jacket. He topped off his look with black leather lug-soled shoes and a black leather belt.

Jack Harlow
Before performing on the awards show stage, Jack Harlow walked the red carpet in a black Lil Nas X “Montero” T-shirt and black slim-fit trousers. He accessorized the look with a pair of black patent leather shoes, a silver-chained waist belt, a silver watch and sleek eye frames.
In other news, Kanye West paid tribute to Diddy in a surprise appearance at the 2022 BET Awards.
