Adidas References Groundhog Day for Special Supernova Cushion 7 Colorway
If you can’t cop them today, try again tomorrow.
No, you haven’t seen this sneaker before. Drawing inspiration from the Groundhog Day tradition, adidas has given its retro Supernova Cushion 7 a themed makeover, decking the pair out in a “Sesame” colorway that’s not too dissimilar to the fur of a woodchuck rodent.
Like various scenes from Bill Murray’s 1993 film Groundhog Day, the shoe features embroidery of the furry creature on the rear of its heels. On the left, we see a happier groundhog, while the right sports an angrier animal — denoting what happens per the legend of Groundhog Day from Punxsatawney, Pennsylvania. As the tale goes, the emergence of a groundhog on February 2 foreshadows the next six weeks’ weather, and depending on if the animal sees its shadow or not, we will either get an early spring or an extended winter.
This is depicted once more inside the shoe, where we see the groundhog surrounded by a sunny sky and a cloudy sky across both of the feet. Elsewhere around the sneaker, adidas mixed mesh with suede in an OG manner alongside plastic Three Stripes, a synthetic tongue in silver, and rope laces in brown. Beneath, you’ll find an adiPRENE+ sole unit promising all the comfort that the shoe’s known for, while 3M hits round the pair off.
adidas’ Groundhog Day-themed Supernova Cushion 7 retails for $133 USD and can be bought from HBX now.
