Nintendo has just announced that it will be ending its eShop support for the 3DS and Wii U.

This news applies to all consoles under the 3DS umbrella — the New Nintendo 3DS, New Nintendo 3DS XL, New Nintendo 2DS XL, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, Nintendo 2DS, Wii U Deluxe — as well as the Wii U Basic. This will end all free content like demo games, and will also end all credit card transactions linked to the eShop for the systems. Any credit balance in users’ Nintendo Network ID will be pushed to the Nintendo Switch family of systems.

Under the Q&A section, Nintendo explains that the reason for the discontinuation falls under “the natural lifecycle for any product line as it becomes less used by consumers over time.”

Gamers using these consoles have until late March 2023. For those feeling nostalgic, Nintendo has already prepared a tribute (Memories) page dedicated to the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.

In other gaming news, Valve has released CAD files for the Steam Deck.
