Moncler Taps DingYun Zhang for Its Latest Genius Collaboration Project
“I am all for big volumes that sculpt the body into new forms,” says Zhang.

For the next round of its ever-evolving and boundary-pushing “Genius” collaboration project, Moncler has tapped fashion designer DingYun Zhang to add his aesthetic to the brand’s identity.
Zhang – a graduate of Central Saint Martins‘ MA program – caught the attention of Moncler with his approach to functional fabrications, volume and garment layering. For his Moncler “Underwater Futurism” capsule collection, Zhang incorporated sculptural outerwear in tones of aqua blue, brown and black, cropped hooded coats, vests and “ultra-light” crinkled nylon.
Directional, lightweight padding and exaggerated sleeves are also a highlight of the collection, along with adjustable, Chinese-style knotted buttons, hidden zippers and thumb-hole ribbed cuffs. Describing his design technique for the collection, Zhang said, “I am all for big volumes that sculpt the body into new forms.”
“I took inspiration from underwater creatures to devise pieces that float lightly, in a color palette that resembles the coral and fungi that naturally grow on top of sculptures submerged in the deep sea,” he added.
Item prices range from $2,915 USD to $4,545 USD, and are available on Moncler’s website.
