Karmuel Young Shares "Project 06: Same But Not Same" Collection
Building on its previous offerings.
Returning with its latest collection, Hong Kong-based designer Karmuel Young looked to reflect on the previous offerings of his eponymous label. Dubbed “Project 06: Same But Not Same,” the range builds on previously-used geometric shapes colored in a melange of neutral and metallic hues.
Expressing an intricately sophisticated simplicity, the latest collection continues the designer’s pursuit of innovative variations on traditional menswear styles. Interestingly, the compressed tops and trousers are designed with mathematical precision into XY or YZ cuts inspired by the Cartesian coordinate system. Depending on the directions towards which the seams are projecting, pieces express bold, empowering silhouettes. Aside from the use of smooth leather, suede and a crinkled, padded fabric, Karmuel Young created tone-on-tone looks that spotlight something uniquely human, skin complexions.
The “Project 06: Same But Not Same” collection conveys the similarity and divergence between humans and their mechanical replica, through synthetic materials such as silvery textiles, silicon rubber and chain links.
Accompanying accessories created in collaboration with MOUCCM, provide sculptural forms crafted with grayscale minerals. Pieces include a Hinged Geometric Ear Cuff, a versatile bracelet that doubles as a collar link and cuff chain.
