Following the release of two trailers, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has now premiered the first full scene from the film at The Game Awards, picturing Mario wandering through a section of Mushroom Kingdom. Led by a hurried Toad who loudly reveals that Luigi is in big trouble, Mario makes his way through the bustling streets filled with subtle references to the original games including the appearance of Cheep Cheep pufferfish and the Crazy Cap shop from Super Mario Odyssey. With the music in the background working in sound effects and classic tracks by Koji Kondo from the original games, Mario is seen hopping around levitating platforms and shooting through the warp pipes before eventually making it to the steps of Princess Peach’s Castle.

The upcoming film is an origin story of sorts, echoing the classic storyline for the classic Super Mario Bros. game in which Mario travels through an underground labyrinth with Luigi to save Princess Peach. The cast includes Jack Black as Bowser, Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set to premiere on April 7, 2023.
