To celebrate the upcoming lunar new year, Chinese artist Zhang Quan‘s label Melting Sadness reconnects with adidas Originals for a footwear pack featuring playful takes on the classic Superstar and ADIMATIC silhouettes.

The ADIMATIC takes cues from the traditional “Dragon and Lion Dance,” incorporating bell attachments and lion costume details across the woven uppers. The silhouette’s signature sawtooth toe and heel sections mimic the tiger’s sharp teeth while eye motifs run across the laterals. Laces are double-stitched and additional stud details line the padded tongues. Rounding out the look are semi-translucent outsoles showcasing paw-patterned bottoms. The ADIMATIC pairs arrive in both blue and orange colorways.

Also on the lineup are adidas Superstars which interpret the forthcoming Year of the Rabbit in a very literal sense. Found in blue and pink colorways, the Superstars are lined in white fluffy materials featuring all-over prints inspired by traditional Chinese pattern totems. Large puff balls are secured on the heels and black dot designs on the heel represent the cute spots on KARORO’s face to round out the look.

Take a closer look at the Melting Sadness x adidas Originals “2023 CNY” pack below and stay tuned for more release details.
