Since the early 1970s, Kisho Kurokawa’s Capsule House K has been a worldwide marvel of Metabolist architecture. Now design aficionados and lovers of Japanese craftsmanship can get a closer look at the space by booking a stay through Airbnb.
Located in Japan’s Nagano Prefecture, the house features a retro-futurist aesthetic and a similar modular construction at Kurokawa’s Nagakin Capsule Tower (which was demolished this year). Standout design features of the home include a central shaft construction with four attached capsules. Additionally, the space includes a total of four bedrooms and two bathrooms.
Capsule House K was restored in 2019 to bring back to life the space’s unique design details like 70s control panel fixtures and more. Aside from the bedrooms, other standout spaces of the home include its minimalist capsule tearoom with sliding shoji screens and an all-white capsule living room. Serenely nestled in nature, the house is accessed from the roof which is at street level.
