Watch Smino Perform a Mashup of "Lee & Lovie" and "Blu Billy" on 'Fallon'
The tracks come off of his first LP in 4 years, ‘Luv 4 Rent.’
Hip-hop artist Smino took over The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday evening with a mashup of two tracks from his new album, Luv 4 Rent.
The St. Louis-born singer started off with the slowburning “Lee & Lovie.” Compared to his harder rap bangers, the song hears Smino at one of his more gentle, lovesick moments.
“My baby got my undivided / Attention, shawty so cudiado,” he croons. “So pretty when the sun kiss, your brown skin / Round of applause, make the ass go bravo”
After a few minutes, “Lee & Lovie” seamlessly transitions into the anti-capitalism protest ballad, “Blu Billy.” The band accompanying Smino simultaneously speeds up while getting quieter to allow for listeners to interpret the artist’s spitfire bars.
“We all hustlers, blue billy / We conditioned, by conditions,” he raps. “Capitalistic, read through the lipstick / Shit that they make up, make us forget shit.”
Smino rounds off his set by fondly name dropping the show’s host, rapping “this ain’t no promo/ this is Jimmy Fallon.”
Released late last mont, Luv 4 Rent is Smino’s first full-length project in four years, featuring guest appearances from J. Cole, Doechii, Fatman Scoop, Cruza, Lucky Daye, Phoelix, Cory Henry, Ravyn Lenae, Reggie and Lil Uzi Vert. In support of the LP, Smino will head on a co-headlining tour with JID in 2023.
