With Black Panther: Wakanda Forever making its debut around the world this week, there is already speculation of a third film for the franchise.

In a recent interview with Variety, director Ryan Coogler discussed what his plans are after the second film. Producer Nate Moore has confirmed that Marvel is already developing multiple series for Disney+, set in Wakanda and with Coogler’s production company, Proximity Media helming the projects. Moore says that there is a lot of opportunity beyond the film to build on the world of Wakanda.

The matter of a third Black Panther film arises in the midst of the premiere of the second film. While it is not a surprise that the second installment wraps up many plot strands, Coogler was asked if he would be willing to direct a possible threequel to Black Panther. The director said, “I can tell you definitively I have no idea what I’m doing next as a writer and director.” Marvel chief Kevin Feige chimed in and said that he has had “conversations” with Coogler regarding a third film and that there were “ideas pitched back and forth.” When it comes to considering a third film, Feige said,

“I go back to what I said when we decided to make Wakanda Forever after losing Chad. This mythology and this ensemble and these characters deserve to continue and will continue after all of us are gone, I hope, and will continue forever in movies the way it has in comics for 50-plus years.”

He also adds that working without Coogler “wouldn’t be the preference.” Coogler, at the moment, is focusing on the present, geraing up for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, “I love making movies, but to quote a character in our movie, I gave this everything. This movie got everything I have. I’m at that place where I think I’ve got this press tour in me and then I’ve got to sit down and reflect. Probably cry a lot, because I’ve been holding that back. And then from there, figure out whatever’s next.”

In other entertainment news, James Cameron says Avatar 3 could be the last film of the series.
