Juxtapositions Define Dior's Spring 2023 Menswear Campaign

Dior‘s Spring 2023 runway show showcased “California Couture,” enlisting ERL for a collection injected with teenage angst and the irreverence of skateboarding culture. Now, with help from the photographer Rafael Pavarotti, Kim Jones has told his latest seasonal story for the Spring 2023 campaign which stars none other than Robert Pattinson.

The runway show brought the perfect mixture of Venice Beach vibes, ’90s tailoring, and subcultural adolescent nods — the campaign, on the other hand, couldn’t be further from this image. Instead, Pattinson embodies the classic refinement that frequents Dior’s designs and ethos, letting the backdrops in pop-hues of green, red and blue tackle the youthful energy.

Juxtaposition is found throughout the campaign, with the Diorizon Hiking Boot being styled alongside a black car coat that sees its collar embellished in a House-specific pattern, as well a pair of shorts worn over tailored black pants and a Christian Dior Couture-bearing hoodie. This mix-and-match approach shows off Dior’s versatility, heightened by sartorial cues like the relaxed gray suit that’s worn alongside a crisp white T-shirt and Dior’s “CD Diamond” canvas cross-body Lock Case bag.

Elsewhere, traditional menswear staples like a Chore jacket are done-up with the House’s emblematic clip on the chest (like the one used on its belts or those developed by Matthew M Williams of 1017 ALYX 9SM). Winter-ready touches also flicker through the campaign, as the iconic Saddle Bag is re-trimmed in hard-wearing leather and a thick fleece lining, styled alongside Diorizon boots once more and a satin bomber jacket.
