ASICS' EX89 Returns in Lakers, Knicks and Celtics-Inspired Colorways
Reintroducing the ’80s Gel-Extreme silhouette.

Taking inspiration from the archival ASICS GEL-EXTREME silhouette from 1988, the EX89 basketball silhouette was recently reintroduced courtesy of Ronnie Fieg. Following the release of the KITH founder’s collaborative footwear trio, three new EX89 sneakers have now emerged displaying the colorways of legacy NBA teams Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, and Los Angeles Lakers.
The upcoming pairs feature white leather uppers with team colors adorning the Onitsuka Tiger stripes, lower eyelets, inner lining, rear panels, and “asics” heel embroidery. Finer details include silver mesh tongues, double-stitched seams, an additional punch-hole along the laterals, and perforations on the vamp for breathability. Below, the green/black-accented Boston colorway features pre-yellowed soles while the Knicks and Lakers iterations incorporate tri-tone outsoles with dark grey hits spanning the heel.
Look for the ASICS EX89 pack styles to release in the coming months via ASICS and select retailers for $110 USD.
Elsewhere in footwear, Nike readies the Air Max 1 in “Ironstone.”
