A Closer Look at Ye's YEEZY Season 9 Ready-to-Wear Collection
The creative genius debuted oversized ponchos, new 3D-printed boots, puffer jackets and more.
Whether he’s tied to a corporate company or not, Ye is always going to find a way to create within the fashion realm. And in the midst of a buzzing Paris Fashion Week, the creative genius took time to host a runway show to showcase his latest YEEZY Season 9 ready-to-wear collection.
In typical Ye fashion, he went beyond the traditional runway experience and incorporated performance aspects into the event. An invite-only crowd of 50 was treated to a children’s choir all decked out in YEEZY clothing who opened up the show and performed as the models started to gradually walk out and surround them. The collection was designed by Ye and Shayne Oliver, while high-profile figures such as Naomi Campbell, Matthew M. Williams and Michèle Lamy modeled the assemblage. Towards the end of the show, Ye also debuted a forthcoming track made with James Blake.
As far as the clothes went, we saw similar design language from his previously-launched YEEZY GAP collections as many of the pieces leaned towards earthy tones and baggier cuts. Silhouettes that were shown include puffer jackets that came cinched at the chest, pre-wrinkled crewneck sweatshirts, a controversial tee that was adorned with Pope John Paul II on the front and a “White Lives Matter” hit on the back, bomber jackets, slim cut-out dresses, 3D-printed boots that went up to the shin’s length, technical pants, shorts, ponchos with oversized sleeves and more.
