Oliver Sim, one-third of the English indie rock band The xx, released his debut studio album. Although Sim has been making music for well over a decade since The xx’s formation in 2005, the artist took his time with his first solo endeavor. The product was Hideous Bastard, a thoughtful and pensive album exploring rejection, personal growth and queer identity.

While all three members of the band have now put out solo projects — Sim, Romy Madley Croft and Jamie xx — Sim has revealed that The xx is still going strong and will be putting out new music sometime down the line, speaking in a recent interview on Consequence’s Kyle Meredith With… podcast.

“The xx will always be my home and will always be my priority,” Sim said on the podcast. “And normally I wouldn’t speak for Romy and Jamie, but I know they feel the same. I think all of us doing our solo projects just makes me excited. It’s like, how is this gonna change the band? What have we all learned independently?

“Nothing is recorded at the moment, but there is more music from The xx, definitely,” he elaborated.

Serving as a vocalist and bass guitarist, Sim formed The xx at fifteen-years-old after meeting Madley Croft at school. Smith joined just a year later and the trio has been making music together ever since.

In other music news, Arctic Monkeys have announced its 2023 North American tour dates.
