Elevated Sportswear Takes Center Stage for Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2023 Collection
Featuring a graphic black-and-white sweatshirt with archived imagery.

As the world continues to ease into a renewed sense of normalcy for being back outside post-pandemic, many fashion houses have taken note and displayed various interpretations of hopeful revelry onto the runways for Spring/Summer 2023.
At Chanel, elevated sportswear took center stage for SS23 – sans the sweatpants that we’ve all gotten accustomed to during the pandemic. Silhouettes were more giving and less constricting (as noted with additional size ranges featured in the lineup), and fabrications remained true to the house – tweeds, chiffon and leather – while a new sweatshirt featuring graphic black-and-white archived imagery was introduced on the runway.
Pantsuits with single and double-breasted jacket details reigned supreme, alongside an all-white tracksuit-esque jacket and pant ensemble, safari-style mini dresses and cropped jackets. Ruffle-top day dresses and black-and-white polka dot sets also made an appearance in the collection.
It’s apparent that Virginie Viard’s vision for the Chanel woman has slightly differed from Karl Lagerfeld’s version, but her designs call to mind the refined elegance and sporty ease that Coco Chanel once instituted for the brand.
Meanwhile, Louis Vuitton took fashion to the max with oversized detail proportions for SS23.
