Casablanca's FW22 Sunglasses Serve Miami Vice Realness
Dropping six new frames indebted to styles of the past.
For Fall/Winter 2022, Charaf Tajer‘s Casablanca delivered a collection co-signed by the Hollywood star Nicolas Cage, and throughout the Hugo Comte-shot lookbook, we saw the actor play himself while consistently donning various iterations of the label’s sunglasses collection. Now, Casablanca has released said sunnies.
This season, Casablanca delivers six silhouettes: “The Magazine,” “The Memphis,” “The Pilot,” “The Casino,” “The Laurel,” and “The Wing.” Each follows the brand’s signature undertones of summer riviera-meets-classic ’70s and ’80s vibes, serving palettes of tortoiseshell, black and gold, rose-tinted lenses, yellow, pink, green and more.
Take “The Memphis,” for example. Here, pink, yellow, and brown has been used across three alternating examples of this vintage-indebted style, combining its wavy acetate arms with 18K gold branding on the temple and a fascia bolstered by two ovular lenses. Likewise, the vintage undertones are continued with “The Pilot,” a reworking of the seminal aviator frame also sporting 18K gold hardware, this time working like an exoskeleton to hold two oversized lenses in place.
Elsewhere, we find “The Laurel,” a pair served in cream tones with green and red metal and 18K gold branding on the arms, giving the sides a less structured flair. Also ovular at the front, this pair screams of the ’80s.
