Oh Young-soo, who portrayed player No. 1. in Squid Game, won a Golden Globe for the best performance by a supporting actor in a series at the 79th Awards on Sunday night. This makes Oh the first Korean actor to win that award at the Golden Globes, which are held by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

“Upon hearing the news of the award, I said to myself ‘I‘m a decent man’ for the first time in my life,” Oh said in a statement released through Netflix. “It is no longer ‘us in the world’, but ‘the world in us’.

While embracing the fragrance of our culture and the love of our family, I thank you all around the world. I wish you have a beautiful life. Thank you,” he continued.

Other nominees in the category included Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass in The Morning Show, Kieran Culkin in Succession and Brett Goldstein in Ted Lasso.

Although Netflix didn’t submit Squid Game to compete in the Golden Globes itself, the series was nominated for three awards in December. Squid Game didn’t win the two other prizes — best drama series and best television actor in a drama — for which it was nominated.

This year, the ceremony was not broadcasted or livestreamed. Instead, the HFPA publicly released its list of winners online.
