John Elliott's SS22 Collection Channels Hope
Taking on a modular sense of dressing with natural-toned pieces.

For the Spring/Summer 2022 season, John Elliott’s new collection was birthed out of isolation. During pandemic lockdowns, the LA-based designer meditated on life’s re-shuffling, which prompted a forward-looking approach on how to orient his next work. Titled “Bright on the Inside,” the collection is an homage to a widely felt human sentiment, hope.
“Stuck at home…I found myself surrounded by stacks of books and a small board to pin thoughts on. I’m not a Buddhist or particularly religious, but I quickly became attached to a large photo of the Dalai Lama,” said Elliott. “It felt hopeful—a symbol of what we all need to feel on the inside.”
The SS22 offering takes on a mutable sense of dressing with natural-toned pieces meant to elevate any ensemble. Featuring menswear and womenswear garments, the collection includes knitwear, relaxed pants, oversized cocoon style overshirts, printed jackets, military-inspired cargo pants, button-down shirts, denim and more — washed in shades of beige, taupe, olive green, powder blue, gray and black. A collection highlight includes relaxed tailoring in black and gray with a slightly crinkled effect for elevated casualwear.
“We carefully built a collection designed to embrace and propel us all forward confidently in new ways,” said Elliott. “What resulted was a system of dressing—a modular wardrobe that centers around building confidence in one’s self to start from the inside and radiate out.”
Shot in a Los Angeles home designed by the late American architect, John Lautner, the collection comes to life through touches of nature. Check out the gallery above for a look at the collection, which will be available soon on John Elliott’s website.
