Nintendo's Original Headquarters is Reopening as a Hotel
Just a train ride away from Super Nintendo World.

If you’re looking to visit Super Nintendo World when the pandemic settles, you’ll soon be able to book accommodation for your Japan trip at the former Nintendo headquarters just a train ride away as well.
Located in Kyoto, the new Marufukuro hotel is established in the very building that Nintendo was founded in all the way back in 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi. In 1933, the company changed names from Nintendo Koppai to Yamauchi Nintendo, shifting its main business from producing Japanese playing cards to Western playing cards instead before ultimately pivoting to the video company we have all come to love.
As its business expanded, Nintendo created its very own distribution firm named Marufuku, where the current hotel’s name is taken from. The “ro” at the end, according to Sora News 24, denotes a mansion or expensive building. By 1959, the company had outgrown its Kyoto location and moved to a larger space with the name change to Nintendo Playing Card Company. The current premises has since been left vacant until Plan Do See renovated it into a Marufukuro.
Now scheduled to open on April 1, the hotel is equipped with 18 rooms filled with fun details you can explore, and there’s also options to stay in more modern rooms located in the building’s new wing.
