LOEWE FW22 Collection Showcases the Beauty in Imperfection
Creative director Jonathan Anderson questions what is real and the plight of perfection.
Over the years, acclaimed fashion designer Jonathan Anderson has been evolving the design ethos at Spanish luxury house, LOEWE. From charming patterns to bold and voluminous gender-defying silhouettes, Anderson continues to bring new dimensions to the LOEWE archetype. While this attention to imaginative design persists, the Ireland-born creative director gets cerebral from LOEWE’s Fall/Winter 2022 menswear collection.
Meditating on the question “what is real today?,” the new collection discusses the conflict between the plight of perfection and the creation of the status quo. By challenging these notions and acknowledging life’s multidimensional experience, Anderson exhibits the beauty in imperfection. Staying in line with this theme, the consistent thread in LOEWE’s FW22 collection is that it is atypical. Anderson does not employ a singular style or seasonal anecdote but incorporates a fusion of style notes instead.
The collection features an array of trompe l’oeil pieces that come to life through sculptural design elements, various textures and saturated colors. Otherwise simple garments like t-shirts and shorts and elevated with hoop-like three-dimensional detailing, while cropped knit mesh tops appear in an array of colors with abstract sleeves. Additionally, collection tops are expanded with attached floor-length gloves, screen-printed graphics and stripes. Baselayer pieces in midnight blue, peach and gray feature LED string light detailing on the interior. A highlight of the collection is the selection of outerwear pieces that include translucent overcoats in electric colors, a large abstract sleeveless coat in shearling and leather, overcoats finished off with large buttons and more.
Whether it be a sculptural knit or a classic overcoat, the collection rests on having no references and presenting what is fun. Rounding out the collection are pieces like knit balaclavas, a selection of leather bags, rubber boots, square-toed loafers and a unique pair of goldenrod yellow leather bag-like shoes.
