Adidas Spezial Returns With Its Pre-Spring 2022 Collection
Archival silhouettes reimagined through an outdoors-y lens.
After ending last year by collaborating with C.P. Company as a part of its “Cinquanta” Celebrations, adidas Spezial returns with its much-anticipated Pre-Spring 2022 collection.
Under the guise of brand consultant and designer Gary Aspden since its inception in 2016, Spezial has garnered a loyal following thanks to its dedication to updating and reworking adidas garments and footwear of years gone by.
For its Pre-Spring collection, things are no different. Aspden once again hones in on timeless and functional details from the adidas archives, to deftly reinterpret military aesthetics and outdoors-y details through a unique Spezial lens.
The Barrowland Jacket leads the way when it comes to outerwear, drawing inspiration from the classic Horwich anorak from Spring/Summer 2017, while the Trongate Jacket delivers rain-proof construction and comes equipped with a multi-pocket chest, sealed seams, and a mesh lining.
Footwear is as high on the agenda as ever this season too, with six styles arriving across five unique silhouettes. The Moscrop SPZL — a completely reworked winterized shoe — takes notes from the archival Raider silhouette and comprises a technical Cordura and suede upper.
The winterized focus continues in the form of the Winterhill SPZL, a classic silhouette with speckled laces, a technical ripstop upper and an adi-Tex membrane, while the Lothertex SPZL — a techy take on the Lotherton — boasts a water-repellent leather upper, gusset tongue and the same adi-TEX coating.
The Carnforth SPZL and two iterations of the Barrowland SPZL round out footwear this season. The former is a seasonal take on a hybrid leisure shoe, while the latter is a brand new silhouette with a classic terrace flat look, with fresh suede uppers and matching gum outsoles.
The collection is completed with two tees which pay homage to adidas’ sportswear heritage, a khaki-colored Meanwood Polo and the Anderson top and pant combination, a nod to vintage military silhouettes.
The collection is accompanied with a campaign film shot by long-time Spezial collaborators &SON and stills from photographer Kevin Cummins, starring Arsenal F.C.’s Kieran Tierney, Leicester City F.C.’s Hamza Choudhury, and Tottenham Hotspur F.C.’s Alfie Devine.
The adidas Spezial Pre-Spring 2022 collection is set to drop on February 3 and will be available in limited quantities from the adidas webstore, as well as retailers like Wellgosh.
