Nike’s Air Max BW “Los Angeles” Is a Colorful Homage to the City of Angels
More specifically, LA’s street style in the ’90s.

As Nike‘s Air Max BW celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2021, it’s done everything from return in its original “Persian Violet” colorway to serve as inspiration for a whole pack of Nike Sportswear classics. Now, the 1991 classic affectionately known as the “Big Window” by its legions of fans is set to begin rolling out in a set of city-centric styles, one of which is this “Los Angeles” makeup.
Inspired by the City of Angels’ street fashion scene in the ’90s — think big, bold tees and bright sportswear — the “Los Angeles” features an array of black and white mesh, leather and nubuck detailing on its upper. This calm two-tone assortment is quickly enhanced by potent pops of bright orange on the rubberized Swoosh, thick collar and puffy tongue.
There’s plenty of special branding to be had here as well. The heel’s standard “Air Max” hit is replaced by a Los Angeles spellout, while the left shoe presents a purple “LA” logo on its tongue in place of the right shoe’s standard Nike graphic. More purple can be seen on the insole details, and purple lace deubres read “1991” and “2021” for a nod to the start of the BW’s fourth decade on the market. Down below, white and orange midsoles with purple Air Max units finalize the look.
The Nike Air Max BW “Los Angeles” is set to release via Nike SNKRS on September 16. Its MSRP is set at $140 USD.
