HYPEBEAST and Louis Vuitton Collaborate on One-of-a-Kind Digital Trunk
To commemorate the 200th birthday of the brand’s founder.
Today marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Mr. Louis Vuitton himself, founder of the eponymous luxury goods house, and arguably the most significant leather goods creator of all time. The French luggage-maker, who created trunks for Napoleon III, founded the house that bears his name at the age of 33, and invited the brand’s iconic ‘Damier’ pattern shortly after.
To mark the anniversary of his birth, the brand has launched a new initiative, 200 Louis, in which 200 global visionaries from every cultural field have been invited to create their own interpretation of the classic Louis Vuitton trunk, either as a physical or digital object.
Among the creatives invited to contribute to the project is HYPEBEAST’s founder and CEO, Kevin Ma, who has designed a digital HYPEBEAST x Louis Vuitton collaborative piece. “We decided to create something that connects Louis Vuitton and HYPEBEAST together,” says Ma. “But of course, we had to do our own fun animation of the Louis Vuitton logo, with the HYPEBEAST logo within it.”
The final result features the instantly recognizable Louis Vuitton hardware and clasps, reimagined with a mash-up of the two brands’ logos, and set against a black background.
Among the other contributors to the project are the designer NIGO, the author and activist Gloria Steinem, the architect Frank Gehry, and the K-Pop band BTS. The assorted trunks will appear in the windows of global Louis Vuitton stores, and may be auctioned after, the proceeds of which will be used to enable students of the arts, creativity, and innovation to complete their studies.
