Witherell’s Auction House is set to offer a series of personal items from the infamous Al Capone in its upcoming live auction event, A Century of Notoriety: The Estate of Al Capone.

The estate of the notorious figure will be selling almost 200 family treasures that reveal new details of his private life, including extravagant diamond jewelry, antique guns and letters from prison that were stored by Capone’s granddaughters, who have lived quietly for decades in a small Northern California town, and authenticated by Witherell’s.

“What people don’t know is his personal story as a father and grandfather and his painful path of redemption while at Alcatraz,” granddaughter Diane Patricia Capone, daughter of his only son, Sonny Capone, said in a statement. “That is the unknown Capone I talk about in my book and it’s the story that comes to life with these family treasures.”

“This is a high-profile auction of international significance and one of the most compelling events in Witherell’s 52-year history,” Brian Witherell, cofounder of Witherell’s and guest appraisal expert on PBS’s popular series, Antiques Roadshow, added. “We are honored that the Capone Family chose Witherell’s to present their most treasured mementos and that they trust us to handle the estate with the diligence and security it requires.”

Take a look at the full collection on the Witherells’ website. A Century of Notoriety: The Estate of Al Capone is set to take place on October 8 at The Sutter Club in Sacramento, California. Witherell’s will be taking both live and phone bids.
