People Got Off-White™ x Nike AF1 "University Gold" by Tricking Nike SNKRS Stash
Some sneakerheads exploited a loophole.
On July 10, Nike SNKRS held an exclusive localized release for the Off-White™ x Nike Air Force 1 “University Gold” to mark Virgil Abloh‘s ICA Boston “Figures of Speech” exhibition. Utilizing its SNKRS Stash launch system, the special tonal colorway was limited to those in the Boston area. But sneakerheads were able to exploit a loophole to override the proximity access that restricted the shoes to those in the area on a first-come, first-served basis.
The sizeable group that were able to get their hands on the Off-White™ x AF1 “University Gold” simply “spoofed” their location to trick the app into thinking they were within the designated SNKRS Stash area. Spoofing a location is as easy as using specialized software but the trick can be remedied with Bluetooth beacons at the actual area to verify customers are physically at the location.
