Issa Rae Launches Converse By You Collection Covered in Positive Affirmations
Supporting self expression through slogans, graphics and more.
Issa Rae has partnered with Converse to release a customizable Converse By You collection. The collection has been designed in collaboration with Nicky Fulcher, a young creative personally chosen by Rae, and focuses on the Chuck 70 silhouette.
Fulcher is a. first generation Haitian American, and was enlisted to this project by Rae due to their shared experience as young, Black creatives who both value self expression, creativity and identity. These values are the driving force behind the collection, which features graphic phrases and color palettes designed alongside the Converse design team.
Launching the Converse By You collection, Issa Rae said, “it was all about empowering the next generation to get up and DO what it is they aspire to do. So the team took some of my personal affirmations and approaches to life, and put them into the design of the shoe.” Fulcher also discussed the project, adding that, “collaborating with Issa felt natural. To have the opportunity to collaborate with Issa is a dream come true, not because of who she is, but what she stands for.”
