Brendan Hunt, co-creator of the celebrated Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso, has addressed the possibility of ending the show after its third season.

Speaking to ComicBook, he revealed that they originally planned on having three seasons, but the audience reaction to the series could change that. “We’ve always seen it as a three-season situation. We still have a three-season story arc in mind, but the thing we weren’t prepared for when we were thinking three seasons, was the degree to which people would take to the show,” Hunt explained. “So, perhaps that intention will be challenged a little bit, but that’s where our head is at right now.”

The first season of Ted Lasso was met with critical acclaim, earning several Golden Globe and Emmy nominations including Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy, Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. Cast members like Jason Sudeikis (who portrays the titular character), Hunt (Coach Beard), Juno Temple (Keeley Jones), Nick Mohammed (Nathan Shelley), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins) and Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton) also received nods for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

The show follows upbeat American football coach Ted Lasso as he attempts to manage British soccer team, AFC Richmond, despite having no experience in the sport whatsoever. Lasso and long-time friend and fellow coach, Beard, make the most out of the new opportunity, however.

Ted Lasso season two premieres July 23 on Apple TV+.

Elsewhere in entertainment, Loki episode six is now the most-watched MCU season finale.
