New 'Candyman' Trailer Dares Viewers To Say His Name
While unveiling the film’s official release date.
Universal Pictures unveiled the second official trailer for the hotly anticipated horror film, Candyman, directed by Nia Dacosta under Jordan Peele‘s MonkeyPaw Studios, on Wednesday.
The film follows a grown-up Anthony McCoy (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), the young boy that Helen Lyle saved in the first movie, as he moves back to his now-gentrified neighborhood, Cabrini Green. Pushing through an artist’s block, McCoy delves into the legends and myths surrounding Candyman, which ultimately invites the terrifying spirit into his life.
The fourth installment to the Candyman series — following the third entry, Day of the Dead, which arrived in 1999 — stars franchise veteran Tony Todd, Watchmen‘s Abdul-Mateen II, WandaVision‘s Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Colman Domingo and more. The film was written by Dacosta and Peel along with Win Rosenfeld.
Upon initial announcements for the new Candyman in February 2019, Todd, who played the titular character in the three preceding films, expressed his excitement for the film’s comeback with a blessing to the cast and crew on Twitter.
