NIGO and Virgil Abloh Reunite for LV² Pre-Spring 2022 Collection
The duo continue their “creative conversation” for a new season.
After beginning their collaboration last year, NIGO and Virgil Abloh have returned for the latest LV² collection for Louis Vuitton. The Pre-Spring 2022 collection is inspired by NIGO and Abloh’s diverse cultural roots, as well as NIGO’s own personal collections of British subcultural dress.
This influence sees references to Western tailoring from the 1950s and ’60s alongside nods to Japanese culture. Stand-out features include color-blocked workwear blazers, denim suits in a Monogram camouflage and a rowing blazer that sports the lining of Louis Vuitton trunks. Additionally, items throughout reference NIGO’s Human Made label, particularly through tiger head and red heart graphics.
Other key pieces blur the lines between the two designers and Louis Vuitton’s travel and fashion legacies, particularly with kimono-inspired shirts and jackets, as well as references to postage stamps and a jacket constructed in the Monogram coated canvas best known for being used in Louis Vuitton’s luggage.
As well as clothing, the LV² Pre-Spring 2022 collection extends to accessories — such as Japanese-inspired bags, and jewelry in the images of the duck, tiger and heart — and footwear. For this collection, NIGO and Virgil Abloh have updated the LV Trainer with all-over graphics and another colorway that mixes grainy leather with denim details.
