Dell's Discontinuation of Alienware Graphics Amplifier Confirms Thin Silhouette of X15 and X17
Revealing there is a reason for the conspicuously missing proprietary port in the new gaming laptops.
Alienware recently launched their thinnest gaming laptop yet with their new X15 flagship model. Alongside the X15, Alienware is coming out with a bigger and thicker 17-inch iteration, the X17 set to be more powerful than ever. Alienware claims that the X15 is set to be the most powerful sub-16mm 15-inch laptop in the world.
The company has said that it has installed highly efficient voltage regulators to help with any heat dissipation. The new laptops are reportedly 25 percent better at transferring heat. Additionally, the X15 and X17 internally feature Intel‘s 11th-gen H-series processors. Both models will come with the 8-core, 16-thread i7 11800H standard, which can be upgraded to the i9 11900H. Between the two, the display options do vary with the X15 offering a mix of FUll HD and QHD panels. On the other hand, the X17 does not offer QHD options but can go for a UHD panel that features a 120 Hz refresh rate, along with 4ms response time, 100 percent Adobe RGB coverage and 500 nit brightness.
Some may have noticed that the X15 and X17 are missing the proprietary port. Dell recently confirmed that it will be discontinuing the Alienware Graphics Amplifier external GPU. The news answers the question why the ports have mysteriously disappeared from the new ultra-thin systems. The company has yet to announce if it will offer a future eGPU. The Alienware Graphics Amp was first introduced in 2014 and designed to accompany the company’s midrange Alienware 13. It is still unclear exactly when the company discontinued the amp.
The X15 will set gamers back $2,000 USD while the X17 costs $2,100 USD. Check out Dell for more details on the gaming laptops.
