SEEKINGS' Debut Collection Casts Julian Casablancas In Its Lookbook
The former YEEZY art director presents his eponymous label.
Former YEEZY alumnus, Mark Seekings has just debuted his eponymous label SEEKINGS. His brand is the result of a decade-long quest for making the perfect denim, and he’s cast Julian Casablancas, vocal lead of The Strokes and The Voidz, for the launch.
According to an interview with 032c, Seekings’ work began when he met Kanye West in 2010 while working retail at Dior Homme in New York. “The two became friends, and Seekings became an art director with YEEZY.” Since then, Seekings has been experimenting with and making denim; he’s now finally offering a slice of his craft.
The collection is concise and includes premium Japanese denim and outerwear, graphic T-shirts, hoodies and hats, livened up by a variety of bold colors. Some of the graphics on the pieces are original artworks by B. Thom Stevenson. One noteworthy piece in the range is a trucker jacket offered in “OXBLOOD VELVET.” It features a boxy fit with twin chest and waist pockets, engraved hardware and hidden button backers to avoid scratching jewelry and watches — the jacket also comes in “OIL GREEN VELVET.”
Another highlight in the collection is the indigo-washed denim that’s been meticulously distressed and faded by hand. It’s cut with a slim fit, crafted from 14oz Japanese denim, and sports a calfskin leather patch on the back waist. Other pieces in the range like the red “Peroxide T-shirt,” the black “Girl Face Hoodie” and “SEEKINGS” logo cap round off the concise assemblage.
In the aforementioned interview, Seekings explained why he tapped Casablancas for the lookbook and how he plans to continue collaborating with The Voidz:
“Julian has always been one of the very few style icons in my life – someone I’ve always thought epitomizes cool.
From that point on it was the only choice for the campaign. After calling in a favor to get connected to his team – and several months of meetings – we landed the campaign with The Voidz. The Voidz are one of the most important musical acts of our time – the biggest rock stars on the planet to me. Their music has this futuristic, alien, punk rock kind of vibe. I saw them in New York on their first tour and I was blown away. By now, people have seen the Julian images, but they’re part of a larger, ongoing collaboration with The Voidz. By the time people read this, I’ll likely be in the middle of shooting the next part of the campaign with the band.”
SEEKINGS’ debut collection is currently available on the label’s website, ranging from $185 – $1,495 USD.
