A release date for DMX‘s posthumous album, entitled EXODUS, has officially been announced.
Def Jam Recordings, Swizz Beatz and the group who now handles the late rapper’s Instagram account all shared the news on social media and confirmed that the record will be dropping on May 28. “The legacy continues,” Def Jam and X’s accounts wrote while Swizz Beatz captioned, “EXODUS IS COMING X THE ALBUM #DMX.”
EXODUS was executive produced and produced by Swizz Beatz. “My brother X was one of the most pure and rare souls I’ve ever met. He lived his life dedicated to his family and music,” he said in a statement. “Most of all, he was generous with his giving and loved his fans beyond measure. This album, X couldn’t wait for his fans all around the world to hear and show just how much he valued each and every single person that has supported him unconditionally.”
The album is set to focus on themes of redemption and marks X’s first release via Def Jam since 2003’s Grand Champ. EXODUS shares its name with the late rapper’s son Exodus Simmons, while the album art was shot by Jonathan Mannion, the photographer who has captured some of DMX’s most iconic images throughout his career.
While a tracklist and the selection of guest features were not revealed, X confirmed earlier this February that his upcoming album will include appearances from the Griselda crew — who he was seen in the studio with — and the late Pop Smoke.
