Watch the Official Trailer to the Upcoming Aretha Franklin Biopic ‘Respect’
Jennifer Hudson plays the Queen of Soul.
The official trailer to the upcoming Aretha Franklin biopic Respect has just arrived — produced by MGM Pictures in association with Bron Creative and One Community.
Respect will tell the story of Franklin’s remarkable rise to stardom, with Jennifer Hudson playing the Queen of Soul. She’ll be joined by Forest Whitaker, playing C.L. Franklin; Audra McDonald, Barbara Franklin; Marlon Wayans, Ted White; and Mary J. Blige, Dinah Washington — just a few names among a long list of other stars.
The movie will be the feature film debut of director Liesl Tommy, who was the first Black woman nominated for a Tony award back in 2016. Tracey Scott Wilson wrote the screenplay, while Scott Bernstein and a handful of others will be producing the movie.
Respect was originally set to release earlier this year in January 2021 but was delayed to August 13, 2021. Take a look at the official trailer above.
