Mercedes-Benz Officially Unveils Its First All-Electric Sedan
The EQS hits dealerships later this year.
Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled its most sustainable luxury auto to date. The Mercedes EQS is the German carmaker’s first all-electric sedan, a counterpart to the Mercedes S-Class models. It is the debut electric vehicle released by the German marque.
In a statement, CEO of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG, Ola Källenius said, “The EQS is designed to exceed the expectations of even our most discerning customers. That’s exactly what a Mercedes has to do to earn the letter ’S’ in its name. Because we don’t award that letter lightly.”
The EQS has pushed the boundaries of design, luxury and comfort for electric vehicles. Its all-electric architect reveals a Power Nap option that allows drivers to recharge during long road trips and charging periods. The seats will automatically recline to a resting position, while the windows and sunshade across the glass roof will dim to create the optimal relaxing environment. Interior light and temperature are set to adjust accordingly. Furthermore, relaxing sounds and images of the night sky may appear on the dash.
The highly anticipated EQS features an optional touchscreen system that spans across the entire dashboard, all the way from the passenger side to the driver’s window. Fans can also anticipate the new face-recognition system that will be able to tell who is driving the car, adjusting the settings automatically.
The first models to arrive in the U.S. are expected to offer up to 516 horsepower and 611 pound-foot of torque. The EQS features a fresh generation of batteries, expected to exert higher energy density, allowing it to have more range. The all-electric range of the vehicle is slated to be about 478 miles, approximately 770 kilometers.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS is set to hit dealerships later this year, but there has yet to be a confirmed release date.

In other EV news, Ferrari CEO promises the first EV will arrive in 2025.
