Wavves Delivers First Single in Three Years, "Sinking Feeling"
A followup to 2017’s ‘You’re Welcome’ could be on the horizon.
Wavves has dropped off their newest single, “Sinking Feeling.”
Clocking in at three-and-a-half minutes, the track hears Nathan Williams‘ return to form — but with a more melodic twist. Accompanied by sharp guitars and drums with a simple arrangement, he touches on what he calls “a wave of depression that keeps coming back. It’s that sinking feeling that drags you down and no matter what you do or where you go it follows you.” The topic of mental health is not new to Williams and his bandmates, Stephen Pope and Alex Gates, but “Sinking Feeling” approaches the conversation with much more tact and a heightened sense of both maturity and understanding. If the trio continues go down this route, they’ll surely appease fans of their Afraid of Heights era — who are also older now — and pique the interest of the newer generation.
“Sinking Feeling” is the group’s first release since 2017’s You’re Welcome and marks their return to Fat Possum Records, the label that released Williams’ self-titled debut album in 2009 and the celebrated 2010 record, King of the Beach.
