“Lo-fi” and “uncooked” are often words which collide with “marvelous” and “boisterous” when describing Californian surf rock meets garage-punk outfit Wavves. With the releasing date of their forthcoming album Afraid of Heights creeping around the corner (March 26), the band has leaked the LP for full streaming via NPR.org one week ahead. The 14-track dispatch was produced by John Hill – who’s previously worked with Santigold and M.I.A. – and features Rilo Kiley’s Jenny Lewis. Melding static guitar riffs and obscure chords with abstract vocals, Afraid of Heights allows quasi-grunge rhythms often rampant to sound miraculously harmonious.
