On Goes From Track to Trail with the Cloudrock Boot
The fully waterproof boot brings On’s signature Cloudtec cushioning into a new realm.
Swiss footwear company On has been breaking a lot of new ground, working with Roger Federer to release its first tennis shoe and dropping a lightweight hiking boot dubbed the Cloudrock. On may mostly be known for its high-performance running footwear like the Cloud and Cloudflow, but it’s managed to apply many of the same track-ready principles used on those models to the Cloudrock, making for a boot that fits like a hiker but feels ready for a long run.
High-cut uppers are done up in an elegant medium brown and treated with a special coating that makes them fully waterproof. Rich chocolate brown appears on the fused mudguard and toe bumper while shades of gray running from silver to slate are used across the top eyestays, branded hits, laces, tongue and collar liner.
Down below, On’s signature Cloudtec cushioning system — a full-length bed of foam circles that compress and expand with motion for impact protection and energy return — work with a sturdy Speedboard strobel for a comfortable setup. This high-tech assemblage is protected with a chunky lugged outsole for exemplary grip.
If you’re looking for pair of hiking boots that don’t feel stiff and leaden like many traditional hiking boots do, the On Cloudrock in brown is available now from retailers like 43einhalb, and is priced at $220 USD.
