Kim Jones and Nike Officially Announce Air Max 95 Collection
Jones’ AM95s pull inspiration from various eras of Nike design, and are accompanied by a special apparel collection.
Kim Jones and Nike have officially announced their Air Max 95 collaboration(s) and debuted a full apparel capsule. The current head of Dior Men’s and Fendi Womenswear, Jones has been working with the Swoosh since 2016 — his last collaborative effort was the genre-bending “Air Dior” collection with Jordan Brand — but this marks his first go-around with the Air Max 95, a legendary runner that he names as one of his favorite silhouettes.
To reinterpret the 95, Jones “[looked] at the way it could be addressed with modern technology.” Though its signature anatomy-inspired overlays, rope-like eyelets and split cushioning system are left intact, the designer pulled from other eras of the Swoosh for select pieces. Upper perforations draw from the Air Max 360, the aforementioned eyestays are overlaid by translucent Nexkin material popularized by shoes like the React Element 87 and Zoom Fly SP, and a classic Nike Sportswear mini Swoosh is placed on the toebox. Other details are supplied by inverted gradients on the upper’s panels and a “Kim Jones” badge towards the heel. Two color schemes are available — a remixed “Volt” that pays tribute to the OG Air Max 95 “Neon” and a bright “Total Orange.”
Both shoes are also accompanied by matching hoodies, tees, jackets and pants, each of which is centered around bold graphics and a mixture of tones both neutral and vibrant. In Jones’ own words, these items “carry an over-scaling of the logo to create something that is as energetic as the shoe itself.”
The Kim Jones x Nike Air Max 95 “Total Orange” and its matching garments will release globally via Nike SNKRS come March 19. The “Volt” AM95 and its “High Voltage” apparel will release on March 19 as well, but will be available exclusively in the United Kingdom. Each shoe is priced at $220 USD, and apparel prices have yet to be revealed.
