Universal Works Draws on Reggae Sound System for SS21 Collection
Inspired by the founder’s recent trip to Delhi, India.
Universal Works has unveiled its seasonal line-up of contemporary classics in its Spring/Summer 2021 lookbook.
Off the back of its recent release alongside London-based boutique Goodhood, the brand now presents a discerning reinterpretation of classic brand staples, made with today’s cuts, colors and styles in mind.
Inspired by a recent fabric trip to India, SS21 draws on an evening founder David Keyte attended during his time in the country — more specifically at a Reggae Sound System event in the heart of Delhi.
Guided by his memories and feelings from that night, Keyte introduces camouflage patterns, matching jackets and pants and sportswear mixed with soft tailoring. Loose and slouchy silhouettes paired with the richness of linens and softness of terry fabrics, with a core of canvas and twill.
A combination of denim and chambrays, loud ‘50s Hawaiian prints, Japanese floral shirting and Paisley weaves also feature, while hippie-like seersucker textures reminiscent of the clothing worn by laid-back dub musicians in London throughout the 1970s and 1980s emanate casual coolness.
Universal Works’ SS21 collection will start with drops across both February and March, and will be available from the brand’s online webstore.
