OverActive Media Is Building a Futuristic Esports Venue on Toronto's CNE Grounds
Costing approximately $500 million USD.
The city of Toronto is welcoming Esports with a proposed entertainment facility/arena. Backed by OverActive Media — the same gaming company that The Weeknd co-owns — the complex will accommodate 7,000-seats, will cost approximately $500 million USD and is expected to be complete by 2025.
This will be the city’s newest sports/entertainment venue since BMO Field in 2007. Once complete, OverActive is looking to have the venue packed out all-year-round with Esporting events featuring its teams Toronto Defiant, Toronto Ultra, and MAD Lions — bringing together fans of competitive games like League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Overwatch, and Call of Duty.
Chris Overholt of OverActive Media comments: “We are building a world-leading, 21st-century sports media and entertainment company and this best-in-class performance venue will be the chosen home for a new generation of fans that think differently about their entertainment choices and experiences.”
Those driving down Lake Shore near the Exhibition grounds are going to witness this futuristic structure in person come 2025.
